Chastity Keyholding: How It Works

How keyholding works with a partner or on your own, from app key boxes and key necklaces to emergency keys and ground rules.

Keyholding is about handing over control, and trust is what makes it work. Here's how to set it up, with a partner or on your own.

For many people the cage is only half of chastity. The other half is the key: who has it, when it comes out and what the rules are. Get this part right and the whole experience feels safer and more exciting.

What a keyholder does

A keyholder looks after the key and decides when the cage comes off. That might mean an agreed daily unlock for cleaning, a set time to stay locked, or something more playful. The keyholder sets the pace, but the wearer's safety always comes first.

Keyholding with a partner

Most people start with a partner. Before you lock, talk through:

  • How long: start short, an evening or a day, and build up together.
  • Cleaning and breaks: when the cage comes off to wash.
  • Check-ins: how often you'll talk about how it's going.
  • A safe word: one word that means "unlock now, no questions".
  • What's off-limits: work, travel, medical appointments, sport.

Some keyholders like to keep the key close, and a Love Heart Key Necklace looks like jewellery while working with most universal-key cages. A themed key like the Magical Girl Chastity Cage Key adds a bit of personality too.

Solo keyholding

No partner? You can still enjoy being locked, with something standing between you and the key:

  • App-controlled key boxes: the LOCKINK Smart App Key Box holds your key and releases it through a paired smartphone app, for solo or partner-controlled play.
  • Timed lock boxes: a simple lock box with a timer keeps the key out of reach until the time is up.
  • Key necklaces: wearing the key won't stop you unlocking, but it keeps it close and makes a lovely reminder.
  • Online keyholders and apps: some people use apps or communities to set their lock time. Only share what you're comfortable with, and never let anyone pressure you.

Before you lock a key inside any electronic box, check how you'd get it out if the battery dies, the app won't connect or your phone goes missing.

Always have an emergency key

This is the one rule that never bends. Whoever holds the main key, the wearer should be able to reach a spare in an emergency: a medical issue, an injury, a lost key or a keyholder who can't be reached.

  • Keep the spare in a sealed, signed envelope, so a keyholder can see whether it's been opened, or leave it with a trusted friend.
  • Don't keep it somewhere you can't get to quickly.
  • Spare keys and locks cost very little and are well worth having.

Using the emergency key for a genuine problem isn't cheating. A good keyholder will be glad you did.

Ground rules that work

  • Agree everything sober and before locking, not in the moment.
  • Start shorter than you think you want. You can always extend.
  • The wearer can always ask to unlock for pain, numbness or anything that feels wrong, and the answer is yes.
  • Plan around real life: travel, doctors' appointments, the gym.
  • Talk afterwards about what you enjoyed and what to change.

Adding extra security

If slipping out is a problem, a Lockable Chastity Support Harness helps keep the cage in place. Browse more in Accessories.
